Kathlyn Chassey is a 24-year-old Star Wars fan battling Cystic Fibrosis, a life-threatening lung disease. Her condition has progressed to the point where she will not survive without a lung transplant. After being initially denied her life-saving operation, Kathlyn was able to enlist the help of a few friends of hers: including the 501st Legion and her life-long friend, actor Peter Mayhew. Mr. Mayhew is beloved worldwide for bringing Chewbacca to life, and now for his and his wife's tireless efforts to save Kathlyn's.

Kathlyn's request for help has since been met with a swell of support from the Peter Mayhew Foundation, 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, and Star Wars fans worldwide. In addition to being sent countless well-wishes from the public and an assortment of donated Star Wars merchandise, Kathlyn also got something she's wanted for quite some time: membership in the 501st Legion and her very own ID number: TX-65651. But most importantly, Kathlyn has been reevaluated and placed at the top of the list for a lung transplant.

If you would like to help support Kathlyn in her fight, you can do so buy participating in the charity auction held by the Peter Mayhew Foundation ( http://bit.ly/DonatePMF ) or by donating to Kathlyn's medical fund ( http://bit.ly/DonatePMF ).

We will continue to update our followers with news on Kathlyn. Until then, we wish Kathlyn all the best and look forward to telling you about her speedy recovery.

If you’re reading this, we probably owe you a lot of thanks.

Over the past six weeks we have promoted our first public t-shirt sale in support of Make-A-Wish, and we have been continually shocked, humbled, and overwhelmed with the show of support from our fans and members.

In September we announced the 501st Legion Make-A-Wish Endowment Fund. Our goal was to raise $150,000 worth of children’s wish money over the next five years. Our t-shirt sale has ended now we are two-thirds of the way there in just six weeks. You helped with that.

If you bought a t-shirt, donated to our campaign, or helped spread the word, you are part of team that delivered this success story. Your support will be felt for years to come in the form of wishes granted for children with life-threatening illnesses worldwide.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Walk This Way
by Kyro on Sat Jul 30, 2016 3:10 pm
A newly-formed 501st Legion squad has been deployed in the Louisville, KY area just in time for this weekend’s FandomFest. Derby City Squad has hit the ground running on their debut event and rolled out a completed AT-ST walker, affectionately named Tiffany.

Legion Commanding Officer Bryon Mesarch was on site for the walker’s inspection, but had another order of business to attend to: Awarding the first ever LCO Commendation Award.

This past February, the Legion was introduced to 14-year-old Star Wars fan and Phil Parks. Phil had spent a long time battling a brain tumor and was deemed terminal. WIth his remaining time, Phil made one request: That he be issued his own set of Stormtrooper armor.

The Legion’s Midsouth Garrison immediately set upon making Phil’s wish come true. Within a day work had begun on Phil’s armor: A screen-accurate Stormtrooper, scaled down to Phil’s frame. An urgent marathon build later, Phil’s wish was granted. The Midsouth Garrison presented Phil with his armor, helped him suit up, and treated Phil as one of their own.

Phil passed less than two weeks later. As a thank you, those that participated in Phil's build were granted the first ever LCO Commendation Award.

Our thanks and admiration go out to the Midsouth Garrison and Derby City Squad.
